This is a wonderful opportunity for a starting Finance professional to join a boutique law firm based in the heart of London, which practices flexible hybrid work – from the office and from home. This role supports the MD and the Head of Practice, ensuring the accurate finance management of all legal matters – tracking expenses and monthly reports, optimising financial operations and dealing with various compliance matters. The role requires a good understanding of legal processes and financial management, as well as great analytical skills. You will work closely with the outsourced financial team while slowly making the role your own.
Responsibilities
- Financial planning and budgeting: collaborating with the legal team to develop and monitor budgets for legal projects, cases and expenses while providing insightful financial analysis and recommendations to support cost optimisation.
- Cost management: overseeing and controlling expenses, ensuring adherence to approved budgets and cost-effective allocation of resources. Identifying potential cost-saving opportunities and implementing strategies to enhance financial efficiency.
- Accounts receivable: monitoring and managing accounts receivable, following up on outstanding payments.
- Financial reporting: generating monthly financial reports and performance metrics and sharing them with the team.
- Tax compliance: ensuring compliance with tax regulations by preparing and filing accurate tax returns. Staying updated on tax laws and regulations to minimise tax liabilities and optimise financial strategies.
- Compliance and auditing: ensuring compliance with financial and accounting regulations, legal guidelines and internal policies. Preparing documentation for financial audits.
- Client accounting: handling client accounts and ensuring compliance, including accurate record keeping and reconciliation.
- Financial analysis: analysing the financial viability of potential cases and proving cost projections.
- Managing vendor and other legal providers’ agreements and managing relationships.
- Financial system management and assistance with the implementation of financial software.
- SRA compliance: assisting the accurate compliance with the SRA legal rules and regulations.
Key skills
- BA degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related degree.
- Experience in a similar financial role, ideally within the legal field.
- Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting guidelines and legal billing guidelines.
- Familiarity with legal processes, terminology, and regulations to ensure compliance with industry-specific requirements (or sound willingness to learn them fast).
- Proficient in using financial management software such as Xero, Dext and Cleo.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret financial data and generate actionable insights.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating efficiently with the team of legal professionals, clients and collaborators.
- Integrity and discretion, ability to work with sensitive and confidential client documentation.
- Ambitious attitude and desire to grow into the CFO position within the firm in the next five years.
