Little fun stories of the best and funniest moments about our industry
Creative or Mad?
A few years back, we started working with a newly appeared software company on the UK market. They dreamt big, and wanted to set up a great team.
We made a few key roles’ placements, but got stuck on the position of the Office Manager. An easy one, right? You think? After months of searching, changing the job specification many times over, not making that final decision on potential winners etc. the client was as lost about what they want as we were. The briefing had been for a ‘rocket scientist’ with the proven record of many-many years of service.
One day my colleague came to me and told me ‘I met this amazing candidate! But she is just a grad, and we don’t have any graduate jobs at the moment.’ And then she told me about the candidate, her amazing technical skills, her attitude towards work and life, her flexible attitude and positive approach. ‘We have to send her for the job with the software guys’ – I suggested. My colleague shrugged – ‘They would never invite her for an interview, she doesn’t have any Office Management experience, and they want it a lot. They want such an extensive experience, that even candidates with tons of experience are not good enough! It is mad! I don’t want the client to think that we are mad.’
So, after some major convincing of my colleague at first, and the client at the second, the candidate had her interview with the company. Two days later after the second round with the Managing Director she got the job offer!
‘How did you know that it could possibly work?’ – my colleague asked me, – ‘Her CV wasn’t a match to what they requested.’ My answer was – ‘But her skills and spirit were the perfect match!’
Who said creativity is not the best way for a recruiter to approach a project? The candidate we placed is still with the company and is one of the most valuable team members. I say, creativity is the best part 😉
